DESCRIPTION:Laura McCullough has been studying issues regarding gender and physics for over twenty years. She has a BA and MS in physics\, and a PhD in Science Education. She has given numerous talks on gender issues across the US\, and has published on a variety of issues on gender and science. Laura’s current job is Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin–Stout. \nIn this talk\, Dr McCullough will discuss the latest research on reasons for the lower number of women and gender minorities in chemistry and STEM more broadly\, including unconscious bias and stereotype threat. The picnic starts at 11 a.m. (not noon)\, and we will be there until 2 p.m. (not 5 p.m.). Whether you can only drop in/drop out or stay for the duration\, we’d love to see you and your +1/2/3/more for food/drink/games/chat/more. \nWe will have chicken\, brisket\, and ribs catered from Bandana’s BBQ\, and a variety of beverage items. There will vegetarian entree options as well. Please bring a side item to share (chips\, dessert\, or a salad) and\, if you have a family favorite\, a game. \nWe need a headcount for planning purposes\, so please sign up by July 15th. You can also take that opportunity to let us know your drink preferences\, and what side item you’ll be bringing.
