SUMMARY:Mentor-a-chem-class
DESCRIPTION:The Committee on Minority Affairs would like to invite all minority chemists\, chemical professionals\, and chemical business professionals to join us as we introduce high school chemistry students to our careers in chemistry. The goal of this outreach opportunity is to expose high school sophomores to chemistry careers in the St Louis region and beyond\, to give insight into chemistry degree programs and to help minority students think of chemistry as a degree and career path for them. \nIt will take a commitment of only one visit per semester to the school\, to deliver an enthusiastic\, informative description of your day on the job and answer questions. Email Cynthia Chapple for more information. Or\, if you already like the idea and want to jump in with both feet\, sign up here to volunteer for one or more dates this semester: February 8th\, March 25th\, or April 8th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. All we need is you.

SUMMARY:Coffee with Chemists
DESCRIPTION:Pastries of Denmark is billed as a warm\, elegant European-style cafe. You are invited to join us for Coffee with Chemists. Besides being warm and elegant\, the space is also intimate (the PC term for not too big)\, so we’ll plan to take over and mingle with some coffee and treats. See you there? \nThis is an informal event and meant to serve as a networking opportunity for all local chemists and scientists. ACS Membership not required\, but we’d love to tell you more about it! Bring friends and colleagues who want to meet other chemists/scientists! Please let us know if you’re planning to attend (no obligation). \nWe’ve been dedicated to providing a variety of days\, times\, and venues for these meet-ups to try to accommodate diverse schedules for our monthly networking events. Does this time/date/location not work for you? Let us know where you’d like to Meetup next. We’re trying to make each month conveniently located for a different group. \n• What we’ll do: Meet other local chemists and learn about the St. Louis Local Section of the American Chemical Society. Not sure what you’re paying membership dues for every year? Let’s talk about what we can do for you. \n• What to bring: business cards if you’ve got ’em (not required) \n• Good to know: Our theme for 2019 is “Chemistry (and St. Louis) is International” and we look forward to embracing the diversity of our roots – both in St. Louis and in science. \nContact: nalafran@wustl.edu with questions.
