Round-the-world GWB observances completed with red heartsFebruary 11 was International Women and Girls in STEM Day as sponsored by the United Nations. The celebration continued on February 12 with the Global Women’s Breakfast. The overall purpose of GWB2020 is to establish an on-going virtual network where women in the chemical and related sciences can connect with each other in a meaningful way to support their professional aspirations. Each group registered their breakfast celebration online, and their location was designated with a heart that turned from white to red when their breakfast started.
The first breakfast kicked off in New Zealand with Dr. Sarah Masters from New Zealand Institute of Chemistry in Christchurch. The St. Louis Section started breakfast at 7:30 am at La Bonne Bouchee in Creve Coeur as a special edition of the bi-monthly Coffee with a Chemist series. The last fast broke at a corn research site in Kunia, Hawaii. That site is part of Bayer, sponsor of the GWB 2020.

Through her efforts, over 10,000 people celebrated their love of STEM education and breakfast!
