Editor’s note: this announcement was supposed to go out in April. We apologize to Ms. Falkoff and the members of the award committee for the delay.
Please join us in congratulating Sarah Falkoff, the St. Louis Section–ACS High School Chemistry Teacher-of-the-Year.Sarah is a teacher at Clayton High School. She believes there is so much more to a classroom and being a teacher than just curriculum. Fostering relationships with students is one of her many foci. She works hard to keep a positive, respectful learning environment in her classroom with a trusting working relationship with her students. Sarah is passionate about all students not only enjoying her class, but also being able to access the curriculum.
Having worked with struggling learners, she believes that having many hands-on experiences and inquiry-based labs help them to think differently about the world around them. Students can develop critical thinking skills as well as a better understanding about their world. In Sarah’s view, science should be accessible to everyone.
The St. Louis Section would like to thank Sarah Falkoff for her hard work to make chemistry accessible, thought-provoking, and fun for all her students.
