After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Harvard University in 1939 and his PhD from Columbia University in 1942, he spent his entire career working for
Henry D Barnstorff, who served as Secretary of the local section 1964-5, and in the Chair succession 1965-7, died on May 30, 2012. Samir El-Antably died today. He served as Chair of the St Louis Section–ACS in 1982, and since then had been the go-to guy for arranging any sort of banquet or special event. His interest in cooking naturally led him to knowledge of the local restaurant scene, and he used that knowledge to the Section’s benefit
Robert W Murray, Curators’ Professor of Chemistry Emeritus at UM-St Louis, died March 13, aged 83. He joined the University in 1968 after a ten-year career at Bell Laboratories. He graduated from Brown and Wesleyan and completed his PhD degree at Yale. Bob was department chair from 1975 to 1980 and was appointed Curators’ Professor
Recognition Night 2012 was another great time to reminisce about the history of the Section. At this year’s Recognition Night, the section honored the six 50-year members and two 60-year members who were present. On Wednesday, February 29th, 21 teams from 12 local high schools participated in the Battle of the Burets competition at St Louis Community College–Florissant Valley. The top team from each of three preliminary rounds—Kirkwood, MICDS and Clayton—advanced to the winner-take-all championship round. Daniel Kaganov and Adrienne Brauch from MICDS took top honors.
